My National Insurance Contributions have not been updated for the year 2022/2023. A message reads "We are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension. We’ll update your record when this is finished, you do not need to do anything" My self employment contributions were paid in January 2024. I have phoned twice and I have been told the contribution from the Tax office has not been transferred over to National Contribution. Why is this happening?

Hi Anne Moffitt

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, without looking at your National Insurance records I am unable to confirm why your payment has not been transferred to your National Insurance records. Please call the National Insurance Enquiry helpline on 0300 200 3500 and an advisor will check your records and arrange for the payment to be transferred to your National Insurance records. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

Thank you

I paid voluntary class 2 national Insurance contributions through my self assessment in August last year and I am still waiting for it to be transferred to my national Insurance record. I have now contacted HMRC and the National Insurance helpline three times since then which has cost me over £20 in phone calls and each time I get a different answer. The National Insurance guys tell me HMRC haven't sent it and the HMRC tell me the account has been satisfied whatever that means. The last time I called I get a feeling I was being fobbed off as I was told the money will automatically be transferred over on 7th April and still nothing! I honestly don't know what to do next as I've paid my money which shows in my tax account, I've contacted HMRC and National Insurance and neither seem to be able to sort this out which just seems ridiculous! My wife has also had exactly the same problem by the way, the money is sitting there in our tax accounts and hasn't been transferred over to our National Insurance records.

Hi,

We are unable to advise you why this payment has not been transferred from self assessment to your national insurance record in this forum, as we are unable to review personal matters. It is possible that a work management item was created.
As the voluntary class 2 NIC is being collected through your Self Assessment tax return, you will be credited as having paid the class 2 NIC, when the matter is resolved.

Thank you.
