Hello, I made a bank transfer payment for 5 years backdated voluntary class 2 NIC's on 12th January 2024 using the 18 digit reference number provided by an advisor on your helpline. I made it clear what years it was to be allocated to and the advisor gave me the total amount to be paid. It has not been allocated to my NIC record yet. Please would you let me know what date the manual allocation team are currently working on for backdated voluntary class 2 NIC's? Should my payment have been allocated by now? Thank you.

Hi Lightbulb M,
The timescale shows that self-employment services are currently working on post dated 29/5/23.
Thank you.

I paid class 2 contributions from abroad to fill gaps in my record and the cheque was cashed back in August, but no manual allocation hasn't been done yet. What is the current timescale for this to be done after accepting payment? Thanks

Could you please provide a generic response to Brummie Slade? I am in the same position in that I remitted money to you for volontary Class 2 contributions for years back to 2007 in mid August and they have not yet been credited to me. I live in France and plan to take my pension in July next year.

Hi, we are asking for a general idea of the time taken at the moment, not our individual case. A response was given at the start of this thread in response to Lightbulb M so don’t understand why that can’t be done now. I’m wondering what is the point of this forum if the response is going to be to give us a number to phone.

I'm with Brummie Slade on this. I also paid my voluntary contributions in August and would like some idea of when I should see my account updated to reflect this. If it's too soon then that's fine I'll wait and assume all ok. If it's longer than you'd expect then maybe something is wrong and I should follow up by phone. If you give us some idea of what to expect it would be more efficient for us and for you as we can perhaps avoid calling and using your agents time unnecessarily. Waiting on the phone for an hour or so only to be cut off sometimes is not a lot of fun. Also to re-confirm, the link provided to "check when you can expect a reply from HMRC" does not provide any info related to this type of enquiry.

Hi
We are currently dealing with a high volume of voluntary payments.
The timescales depend on the circumstances of your payment and the National Insurance class.
If you paid for an abroad period it can take up to 29 weeks to allocate the payment to your record, if it is a domestic Class 2 payment it can take up to 29 weeks and a domestic Class 3 payment can take up to 8 weeks (based on the automated system allocating the amounts).
The domestic Class 3 payments can also be allocated over the phone, if you’d like to call us on 0300 200 3500 to do so.
However, abroad payments and Class 2 payments take 29 weeks, due to the high volume of other payments in the queue needing to be allocated.
Thank you.

Hi,
The online forum is only supposed to be used for general queries and we cannot take individual details, due to data protection regulations. The current timescale for abroad payments, to be allocated to the relevant tax years, is 29 weeks from the date HMRC received the payment.
Thank you.
