Hello, I am looking to move to Spain, I would be working remotely for a UK company, firstly, can I qualify for an A1? If so, can I extend this after 2 years? I’m not sure if you can advise on this or not, if U go to Spain without an A1 or if it runs out and begin paying my tax and social security in Spain, will my UK employer also have to pay social security to Spain?

Hello, our Company has A1 forms for employees covering work in 13 EU countries. The A1 forms were completed in September, 2023 and as I understand, are valid until September, 2025 (two years). However, the Company has now been assigned work, during December 2024, in an additional EU country, Denmark, which is not list on current workers A1 form. . . Can our forms be amended or is an additional A1 form, listing new country, required for each worker? Kind regards

Hi PhilG,
Depending on the circumstances the original A1 maybe updated with the additional country, or a new A1 may be issued.
A new application (CA8421) will need to be completed for each employee -
Apply for a certificate to confirm you pay UK National Insurance when working in 2 or more countries (CA8421)
Thank you.

Hi there, how can I cancel a submitted application with incorrect dates?

Hi treegardener,
The easiest way to cancel an application is to contact the National Insurance helpline, they will be able to take the details over the telephone
Thank you.

I have a colleague who has both spanish and british citizenship and they want to work remotely from spain 3-4 times per year for up to 2 weeks per time. Do we need to apply for a certificate to prove we are paying their NIC in the UK?

Hi sphr@gh,
Unfortunately we are unable to give a liability decision over the customer forum or telephone you must put this request in writing:
Write to the following address:
PT Operations North East England
HM Revenue and Customs,
BX9 1AN
Include the following information:
•    their full name
•    their National Insurance Number
•    their date of birth
•    the date they left the UK – if applicable
•    their most recent UK address
•    their address abroad – if applicable
•    the type of work they do
•    their company name and address – UK and abroad
•    where their contract is held
•    how often they work in the UK
•    their normal working pattern (the days, weeks or months they regularly work)
This information will assist in our international caseworkers with the correct liability for UK national insurance contributions for you.
Thank you.

Hi nasrin,
I can confirm that an A1 is for an individual that is either employed or self-employed within the European Union or the European Economic Area.
If you are employed and need an A1 then form CA3822
here:
Apply for a certificate confirming you will pay UK National Insurance when working temporarily abroad (CA3822)
Would be appropriate.
If you are self-employed and need an A1 then form CA3837
Here:
Apply for a certificate to confirm you will pay UK National Insurance while self-employed abroad temporarily (CA3837)
Would be appropriate.
If you are working in two or more countries then it would be the CA8421
Apply for a certificate to confirm you pay UK National Insurance when working in 2 or more countries (CA8421)
Thank you.

Hi, My company applied for an A1 form on my behalf to work abroad. The website mentioned that it was delivered, but we have not received the A1 form. Could you clarify whether it is sent by email or post? Additionally, do you notify both the company and me, or just the company? We have been waiting since November 24, 2023, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Please note that I am unable to use the chat or call options, as when I call your number, it either rings for 60 minutes before disconnecting or states that the number is unavailable. I can not use the information here as all you say is check when it will come back and l already know it says it was given but it was not. Who can I speak to in order to resolve this issue? I am already in Spain, and if I do not apply before April 20, 2024, I will have to leave due to a lack of information and support. I look forward to your prompt reply. Best regards,

Any advice on whether to complete CA8421 or CA3822 for employer sending employees (and freelancers) to France for multiple event installations at a single venue over a 12 month period?

Hi,
If the individual would like to remain liable to UK National Insurance contributions whilst they are working in France then form CA3822 should be completed.
CA3822
Thank you.

Hi Juancarlossantannn,
When an A1 is issued, it is generally sent to the person who requested it (in this case your employer).
Unfortunately as we are unable to take personal information within this forum, I am unable to check, or confirm whether your A1 was issued, or who it was issued to.
Our phonelines are extremely busy at the moment due to the deadline for voluntary contributions, however this is the quickest way to confirm that the certificate has been issued.
Thank you.
