Hello, i've been a UK tax payer from January 2013 until January 2023, have 10 years of full contributions, although one year, 2012, is showing as not full. I would like to make up for it to have it full, so i have one year more of full contributions. 1. How can i do this and where? Over the phone is impossible as you give me music for hours waiting. I have moved to Portugal in Jan 2023, and working from here and already have that recorded in UK tax system, i will now be paying tax contributions in Portugal from 2023. 2. If i want to pay for voluntary contributions to the National Insurance in UK for the years to come? Can I? Even working abroad? What does stop me from paying National Insurance volluntary contributions, even if i work abroad from 2023 onwards? Will that make any difference on the future forecast? Thank you,

Hi Jose Cardoso,
If you would like to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst overseas, then please read leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ and then complete and return our CF83 application form.
The NI38 and CF83 may be obtained via Social Security abroad: NI38 .
Our International Team will quote all the voluntary contributions that are recorded on your National Insurance account.
Before you apply to pay voluntary contributions you may wish to obtain a State Pension Forecast via:  Check your State Pension forecast
Thank you.

Thank you for replying and sending all the information links. 1. Although, the year i want to fill the gap and pay for, 2012, is related to a tax-year in which i was already in the UK (arrived in Jan 2013 left i n Jan-2023), therefore, i am unsure here if this relates to pay for NI while abroad tasks or not. Would you please clarify that? 2. To which class should my request for payment be assigned to? I think i "fall" into the Class 1 I was a normal employer to an IT company during those 10 years. Although i am a bit confused by the definition of Class 3 where says "and you’re not liable to pay Class 1". Can you please clarify? Thank you Thank you

Hi Jose Cardoso

As you arrived in the UK during the 2012-2013 tax year it would appear that you may be entitled to pay voluntary class 3 National Insurance contributions for this tax year.

If you could send us a letter to advise us of the date of your arrival and that you would like to pay voluntary contributions for the 2012-2013 tax year then we’ll be able to advise you of the amount required and how to pay.  Our postal address is:  HM Revenue & Customs, PT Operations North East England, BX9 1AN, United Kingdom.  However, if you could ring us we’ll be able to provide you with this information straight away.  Our Helpline number for customers overseas is:  +44 191 2037010.

Thanks
