Hi I am self employed sole trader. I am due to start a permanent, part time job with a PAYE employer. I intend to do the job with continue with self employment. How should I be appropriately registered for taxation purposes? Thanks

Hi,

As you will not have a P45 to give to your new job, your employer will give you a starter checklist form to complete to register the PAYE employment and allocate the correct tax code for you.

If the employer does not have a starter checklist form, you can find the starter checklist here:

Starter checklist for PAYE

Thank you.

Thank you. Regarding the new starter form, some assistance with whether I select option B or C, would be helpful. The part time job I am planning to start will be my main occupation, and any self employed income generated will be secondary to this as it is not guaranteed. Hence I have assumed option B is the correct selection. Is my interpretation correct? Thank you

Hi,

Yes, that would be correct.

Thank you.

Hi I am registered with a few supply agency's. I have just started with another one, what do I tick on the new starter form? do I tick I have another job? the first agency i said i have another job as i was still in full time employment.even though they are all casual agency work and sometimes I don't work for a quite a few weeks. when I have worked I have been taxed at source, even tho I don't earn enough, but the tax office are sorting this out for me. I finished my full time employment in April and not due my state pension till Sept. thanks

Hi Squirrel108 Taylor,
To give you the best advice here, we may need to review your record, and clarify some details regarding your supply agency work.

Hi! I recently finished a permanent part-time job and will be starting another soon. I am required to fill out the Starter checklist as a part of my onboarding. Alongside this, I am also consistently working freelance twice a week in another sector (requiring a self assessed tax return). Which option would I select for my new employer within the permanent part-time role? (A-current personal allowance, B-current personal allowance on a Week 1/Month 1 basis or C-Tax code BR) Thank you!

Hi zdaley,
If you have your P45 from your previous employer, and you have given this to your new employer, choose option A on the Starter checklist.
Otherwise, choose option B.
Thank you.

Hi I am self employed and have been given forms for a new casual (zero hours) contract. I am not sure if I need to tick whether I have another job for PAYE (no, A) or if that it is just asking about if I have other employment (yes, C). Thanks

Hi,
You would tick NO that you do not have another PAYE employment.
Thank you.
