So in 2022-2023 I paid voluntary class 3 NIC for that whole period BEFORE I realised I would have to actually do a tax return for that year. Tax return now complete, however, will the class 3 contributions have been factored into the tax calculation? How would I know if they have or not?

Anyone?

Why would Class 3 be factored into anything. You do not get a tax deduction for paying National Insurance contributions...

OK bear with me, I'm very new to this process. When I get my tax calculation I see a section for paying Class 2 & Class 4 NIC. But I have already paid Class 3 NIC for that same period. Should this not be factored into the calculation? If not, doesn't this mean I am essentially paying NIC twice for that same period?

Hi GPR79,

They would not be included in the calculation.
You will need to contact the National Insurance department after the return has been filed.
National Insurance: general enquiries

Thank you.
