Raise an issue with the Adjudicator, if nothing happens then the Ombudsman, if nothing still happens, your MP.

UPDATE: I am the original poster of this thread. Since posting this 4 months ago, I have contacted HMRC twice and still have had no resolution. I contacted them in August (as I was told to) and was told that my security checks have been completed, and that HMRC will send me a letter via post. I was told to wait for up to three weeks before contacting. Unsurprisingly, no letter ever arrived. I contacted them again today (September) and am now being told the security checks are still in place, and that another referral has been submitted with the 'specialist team' that is performing this. I am being told to wait up to 6 weeks and call back in November. @Admin - What can I actually do apart from waiting for months and repetitive calling to just hear the same thing over and over again? During this entire year long process time, HMRC has not made one effort to contact me in any way, ask for any information, or actually explain what it is they are doing. The timeframes of waiting for 6-8 weeks over and over again, without any substance of an update is tiring.
