I was fined for late return. It was confirmed I did not have to pay the fine, which I did earlier to avoid more pain! There is NOWHERE to reclaim this refund via my account or anywhere - phones are engaged, I get hung up on, or the chat is non-existent. Before I contact my local MP - HOW DO I GET MY REFUND?

Isn't anyone from HMRC going to help with this?

Any response from HMRC on this?

Hi snowmenu

If the penalty has been cancelled then the £100 you have paid would show as a credit available for repayment, unless the payment was allocated against another balance due.
If you have not yet been able to claim this online then you will need to contact HMRC to review Self Assessment: general enquiries

Thank you

Hi, I have received a penalty for late self assessment but I have filled a form two times to let HMRC know that I shouldn’t be in self assessment. I got the penalty after telling them. I have again submitted the form as advised on the penalty notice. What should I do?

Hi Troc wi,
Once your appeal is recevied and if you do not meet the criteria for Self Assessment and the penalty is for the 2022/23 tax year then the penalty would be cancelled.
If you no longer meet Self Assessment criteria then you can also contact HMRC by phone/webchat to review here:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
Thank you.
