I submitted my online Self Assessement on Sep 28 but still not receiving any mail or when I checked my Tax profile, no UTR number. Today is Oct 18 already and I am afraid of delaying in submitting the Tax return form this year with deadline Oct 30, 2023

My wife has the same issue. She has registered tax return self-assessment by mail on 28th Sep for the first time, thinking the UTR number will be ready in 10 days and she can submit the paper self assessment by 31st Oct. As of today she has not received the UTR number yet. Could you please advise how can she submit the paper self assessment by 31st Oct? Thank you.

Still no UTR number. What to do?

Hi Mag,

The deadline 30 October is for the paper tax return. Once your UTR is allocated you will be given 3 months and a week to file your tax return before late filing penalties are charged.

If you have still not received their UTR they will need to contact our Self Assessment team to review.

Thank you.

Hi,

She would need the UTR to submit the Self Assessment. If the notice to file the 2022 to 2023 tax return is issued late she will be allowed 3 months and a week to file the tax return before late filing penalties are charged.

If she have still not received their UTR they will need to contact our Self Assessment team to review.

Thank you.

This is my first year to submit as I arrive UK on Nov 2022 (and start working in Nov 2022). I submitted the Self Assessment online 2 times (9/28, 10/3) but still no mail / email return for any UTR number. And I tried to call the self assessment number 0300 200 3310 and it will kick me off when I say I don't have UTR number. So how can I connect the self assessment team? Any email that I can write to? Also cause I am not sure the charge for that 0300 number will have a huge phone bill for me or not. I have submitted my paper tax return on Oct 28 (Sat) and have the proof of sending from post office. On my paper form I put down I have request for UTR number but no UTR number return to me

Hello, me & my husband submitted self-assessment registration several times (April, July, Sept 2024) and still have not received the UTR. We tried to call HMRC and she just said our submission was "Incomplete" without any further details. We are not sure which part was "Incomplete" when the system allows us to submit our form without any error messages. I checked the HMRC again and for my latest submission date it said "You can expect a reply by 15 October 2024". Shall I wait for the reply in this case? I'm afraid will get late filing penalties.

Hi, I submitted self-assessment registration several times in 20 August, 20 Sept and 29 Sept 2024 and still have not received the UTR. I tried to call HMRC few times but it justed refer me to the website information. For the 20 August submission, I checked the status in the HMRC App, it stated"You can expect a reply by 27 September 2024". The date has passed but I still not received the UTR number. What should I do now?

Hi, I have submitted my self assessment registration on 1 Sep 2024, but still not yet received any UTR, therefore I re-submitted again on 28 Sept 2024. On 29 Sept, I resubmitted my registration again with the address same as my personal tax information in the gateway. I am afraid I cannot receive the UTR before the paper submission deadline on 31 Oct. How should I know HMRC get my self assessment registration, shall I call them? Or I should submit a self assessment registration by post.

I have submitted my paper tax return on 10 Sep by post and have the proof of HMRC received but I still not received UTR No. I am afraid I will miss the deadline 30 October is for the paper tax return.

Hi, I recently submitted my registration for a UTR, however I'm not clear how I know that it's been processed, I didn't revive any sort of confirmation such as an email acknowledging receipt. How do I know it's been submitted successfully and all the information is sufficient to process it and generate a UTR?
