I am enquiring about my grandfather who was born and lived in Italy. He came to the UK in the 70s, lived and worked for a number of years under a national insurance number. He never received any pension credits. I was wondering how I can claim this for him and if I do will his Italian pension stop as we do not want this to happen.

Hi
You would need to contact the state pension claim line on 0800 731 7898.  You may find that your grand-father will need to make the claim himself.

He lives in Italy and doesn’t speak any English. My question is can he claim for the years of pension he had in the UK without loosing his Italian pension or can he give this to a family member

Hi chelsea Tramiro,
That would be for the Italian authorities to confirm if having the UK pension has any effect on his Italian pension.
What he does with the money once received is up to him but it is him who is still liable on the pension.
Thank you.

If your grandfather has a UK National Insurance record then under the EU regulations on the coordination of social security systems he should qualify for a UK pension, as aggregation of his UK and Italian years should, one would expect, get him past any minimum requirements for a UK state pension. The EU regulations foresee that you claim all of your social security (state) pensions via the pension authority in your country of residence, i.e. Italy. They will liaise with DWP in the UK to progress his claim. If he is entitled to a UK State Pension, he will end up with a separate pension from each country. Under the UK/Italy double taxation agreement, the UK State Pension is taxable only in Italy.
