RE: NI voluntary class 2 paid in May 2024, no update yet?
HMRC Admin, you are giving incorrect replies to people who ask about time to allocate National Insurance voluntary contributions. While the stated goal may be 8 weeks, it's actually taking about 5 months currently for voluntary contributions from abroad to be allocated. Please update your guidance. -
RE: Voluntary Contributions - Not Updating in Online Contributions Dashboard
It's actually taking about 5 months at the moment for contributions from abroad. -
RE: Re class 2 or 3 NI, how long is immediate in "you worked in the UK immediately before leaving"
Hi Michael, 2006 is as far back as you can make voluntary contributions. If you look at your contribution record online, it shows the years that you can still contribute for. The good news is that you get to max pension with 35 years contributions, so you just need to add another 20 years - so you're almost there if you pay from 2006 on! -
Definition of 'employed' as relates to eligibility for Class 2 while working abroad
Hello, I'm currently working full-time in US, and have been approved for class 2 contributions. If, in the future, I decide to work part-time, will I still be eligible for class 2 contributions. I can't find a definition of 'employed' anywhere. Thanks! -
RE: Linking NI Class 2 Voluntary Payments to gaps / Confirming Payment
Hi peaf54321, I don't think the answer you got from HMRC above is entirely accurate. The stated goal is 8 weeks, but it's currently taking 2-5 months to show up! I made a contribution in May that still isn't showing up! However, you can chat with HMRC here https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/ask-hmrc/chat/national-insurance and they can at least confirm that they have received your payment.
