RE: Create a Capital Gains Tax on UK property account Do you want to report a capital gain for a t
I'm having exactly the same problem as Shona Forster above. I've created a new Individual gateway ID to report my personal CGT gain (I'm not an estate or a trust) but as mentioned, this loophole seems to have now been closed. The second User Gateway ID is not allowed. I've not found a way to bypass that to create a personal CGT account. Surely, this major issue should have been fixed by now? EDIT after speaking to a fourth "technical" advisor at HMRC my problem has been solved! It seems you DO need two separate gateways. So if you have a Business and Personal gateway combined they need to separate them for you. I do not think this is possible for the individual to do it themselves. I now have my original Gateway ID for my Business and the second one I just opened for me as an Individual. This now has had my personal account details transferred to that. I was then able to enter all the CGT return information on that new second gateway account. Surely, there is a simpler way around this? I've struggled with this for days with the 60 day deadline approaching. Anyway, for those with the same problem, I hope this helps. -
RE: How do I retrieve information about a historic Capital Loss
I did that and after waiting on the telephone for nearly 1 hour I was told the records did not go back that far! -
How do I retrieve information about a historic Capital Loss
Back in 1989 or 1990 I made quite a significant capital loss which was reported to HMRC at the time. I've had a few changes of accountants since then and this brought forward loss is not showing on my return and I can't remember when it last did. I've now made a capital gain and wish to offset it. Is there anyway details of this historic loss can be retrieved from HMRC. I'm doing the CGT reporting myself as I'm long retired and no longer have an accountant. -
RE: Declaring and paying CGT on UK property sale
@LizL Thank you for posting a solution. I'm having exactly the problem. I'm self employed and have a property sale which does not belong to a trust or estate. I'll have another try at submitting the info again.
