Hello all, I have had my R&D claim submitted about a year ago. There's since been no determination, rejection or approval. We are a small tech startup and while not massive or significant, our reclaim would be helpful. Frustratingly there's no indication on determination time or status. Has anybody else here had the same? Is there anything that can be done to find get a handle on timelines? Many thanks.

Hi AnotherSimba,

Please be advised we are currently processing a high volume of claims.
If you are progress chasing a RDTC claim submitted more than 40 days ago or RDEC claim submitted more than 60 days ago please email us at  rd.incentivesreliefs@hmrc.gov.uk.
We aim to respond to your email within 5 working days.
Please note that R&D claims containing only a Research & Development Enhanced Expenditure element are dealt with solely by CT Services and should not be submitted via email to R&D Incentives and Reliefs.
Queries relating to R&D Enhanced Expenditure claims should be made to the CT Services helpline 0300 200 3410.

Thank you.

@AnotherSimba, same here.. I get that HMRC are cutting back and scrutinising claims, and rightly so, but we are completely legitimate technology innovation firm. The UK Government published a road map last March (2023) for reaching tech superpower status by 2030 As a business we rely on the R&D tax Credit scheme to fuel innovation and help our ability to scale up. Without this we’ll have to scale back our investment in skilled staff and R&D activity, so its all very well making these announcements, but how do they suggest we do this without help? I've emailed rd.incentivesreliefs@hmrc.gov.uk several times, each time getting the same standard response...and like you @AnotherSimba, its been well over the 60 days. I've also tried calling the helpline number too and no one on that number can help either, they will just give you the email again! Its very frustrating HMRC, please can someone get in contact with me and give me an update?

I am in exactly the same boat. Our claim is now over 150 days old, I have the usual emails saying it's our highest priority do not contact us for 3 weeks, then 15 days, but that was several months ago now, and nothing. Is this is a clear message from HMRC that the UK is not interested in either small businesses, or technology. Please can somebody from HMRC contact me with an update .

Hi Jason67 Dance,
As you may already be aware RDTC claim submitted less than 40 days ago or an RDEC claim submitted less than 60 days ago we will be unable to respond to your email.
For any cases which go beyond this timescale.
You will need to contact via email to:
rd.incentivesreliefs@hmrc.gov.uk
To progress chase your case.
This can only be progress chased via email, you will need to contact the mailbox and advise attempted multiple contacts but no progress on your claim.
If your R&D claim is for RDEE (Enhanced expenditure) only and out of timescale, this can be progressed chase via the Corporation Tax helpline and escalated to a technical officer to review.
However, this does not include RDTC or RDEC.
If this is a holding letter response from our WMBC department, you will need to follow any instructions or details to get in contact with them.
Thank you.

Hi HMRC Admin 25, Thank you for you response Please can you suggest what we do when our claim is over 150 days old and there is just a wall of silence from rd.incentives? Thank you

Hi HMRC, Our R&D claim has been submitted 6 months and we have no correspondence from R&D Incentives team. The latest we were told by Corporation Tax Helpline that we were put on "priority sheet" for allocation, however this has been the case for over a month now. Our business needs an immediate guidance on what to expect in order to safeguard our continued R&D activities.

Hello, I cannot email rd.incentivesreliefs@hmrc.gov.uk it just gives me a bounce back saying it is an invalid email. We submitted an R&D claim in Nov 23 for my client and have provided the report but I cannot get a coherent response from HMRC as to why it hasn't been processed, and now we are being chased for the CT payment but this will be offset by the refund, can someone help???

Hi,
Unfortunately, the only avenue for progress chasing your R&D claim is via the mailbox: rd.incentivesreliefs@hmrc.gov.uk
The email address is correct and we are not aware of any issues with receiving emails.  If the problem persists please write to us with full details and screenshots of the error message.
Please note however that CT Services has no other route to R&D.
Thank you

Hi Alan Pooley
As already advised in previous answers this forum had no access to R&D claims nor can it progress on your behalf.
Guidance on completion of a CT600 is available at: Corporation Tax for Company Tax Return (CT600 (2024) Version 3)
Corporation Tax: general enquiries can possibly assist regarding a specific entry on the CT600 but cannot progress outstanding R & D claims
The only option regarding progress chasing of your claim is through the Mailbox at RD.IncentivesReliefs@hmrc.gov.uk
Thank you

I submitted my claim on the 30th of June 2024, but still no word from the team. I have called and emailed RD.IncentivesReliefs@hmrc.gov.uk, yet I haven't received any update or reply.
