  • RE: NI Contributions New State Pension

    Hi,
As this is about your State Pension forecast, I would recommend getting further confirmation of your State Pension eligibility and if your contracted out years have been taken into consideration of your State Pension calculation from the Department for Works and Pensions. You can call the Future Pension Centre on 0800 731 0175. Or if you have already reached state pension age, contact the State Pension Helpline on 0800 731 0469.
If you require more information about your contracted out years you can contact our National Insurance team.

  • RE: NI record says that years are not full and no option to pay them?

    Hi,
For anyone that is self-employed, we advise that you need to speak to an adviser at the National Insurance helpline on 0300 200 3500 as there are additional regulations that need to be checked before we can confirm if a person is entitled to pay Class 2 National Insurance voluntarily. Currently there is no option to pay Class 2 National Insurance via the Personal Tax Account.
We strongly advise to get a pension forecast before making any voluntary payment as HMRC can only advise on what is available to pay, we cannot advise on whether the payment is required or will have any effect on the pension. If you pay Class 2 National Insurance Contributions and later find out that the pension entitlement has not improved, you may not be entitled to a refund.
As the Future Pension Service helpline is exceptionally busy, the DWP have released a ‘contact us’ form which can be found here Contact the Future Pension Centre and this will allow you to arrange a callback from Future Pensions so that you can discuss what is required.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Bermuda Social Insurance

    Hi,
You will need to contact the foreign authority of the country in which you paid the contributions. HMRC cannot advise about this matter via this forum.
    Thank you.
  • RE: CF83 5th April Deadline

    Hi,
The 18 digit reference number can change if you are paying a different amount to a payment you have paid previously. Its not unusual for the payment not to show on your Personal Tax Account and reflect on your pension forecast after 8 working days.
It may take at least two weeks for the payment to show on your account. If your Personal Tax Account has not been updated after 10 working days then to contact us again via telephone or webchat. Please find the details below:

  • RE: Online chat opening hours

    Hi,
If you have sent in a CF83 application form to pay voluntary National Insurance from abroad and it has been received, this will be classed as applying before the deadline to pay. Once the CF83 is worked you will receive a reply with all the tax years you are invited to pay. The letter will include the amounts relevant to the tax years and the time limits to pay them by. You can pay instalments up until the final dates stated on your letter for the applicable tax years and the rate/amounts that apply. If you do not pay the required amount for a tax year before the time limit expires the tax year may not be available anymore if it is an older tax year. For the last 6 tax years the rates may increase each year meaning if you do not pay the required amount for a tax year before the deadline to pay, the amount may increase once we enter into the new tax year.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Requirement to call helpline to allocate funds?

    Hi,
HMRC will try to allocate the payment automatically to your account.
They will contact you if they are unable to decide which years you are paying. You can contact us after the 5 April 2025 to advise the years the payment refer.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Transferring NI Credits Gained Through Child Benefit To Spouse

    Hi,
I am sorry that you have not been able to locate your child benefit number.
This would be on correspondence issue by the Child Benefit office.
You can use the example reference to get past the question of the CHB 12345678AB that is shown on the actual page.
    Thank you.
  • RE: How to pay Voluntary contributions to fill gaps

    Hi,
As long as we have received a CF83 application before the 5 April 2025 you will still be able to pay voluntary contributions after the deadline of the 5 April 2025.
However, you will have a 4 week timeframe to be able to pay after 5 April 2025. For example, if we issue you a response to your CF83 application on 20 April 2025, you will have until 20 May 2025 to pay.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Need bill for last year NI to ensure full pension April 2025

    Hi,
If you have not received a payment request, our advice would be to contact the HMRC National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 in the first instance and the adviser will give you the information from the payment request over the phone. The Department for Work and Pensions cannot give you this information, it must come from HMRC. Please note that we do not issue duplicate or replacement payment requests, the advisers that you have spoken to should have provided you with the information you need to make the payment when you called the National Insurance Helpline.
If you have been given this information already, I would advise to pay the amount as soon as possible. If you have not yet been given this information, please contact us on the number above and ask the adviser for information on how to pay the request. This typically involves us giving you our bank details and an 18-digit payment reference so that you can transfer the money to HMRC via bank transfer.
Finally, unless you plan to defer claiming your State Pension, I would advise you to put in the clam as soon as possible. This will allow the Pension Service time to process your claim. Any payments received during or after this can be added once the application itself is processed.
    Thank you.
