RE: HRP Letter leads to deeper questions
Hi,
You will need to contact our National Insurance team to enquire about any periods of HRP or married women’s reduced National Insurance on their account.
As no power of attorney is in place, we would need to speak to the account holder for security reasons and you can assist in the call once security has been passed if they are happy for you to speak on their behalf. We also have an extra support team if required to assist if required.

RE: Class 2 NIC paid via SA - how long to show on the state pension record
Hi Graeme Young,
We will use the 2022 to 2023 tax year to explain the process.
From April 2023 to mid November 2023 any Class 2 National Insurance contributions (NICs) paid to Self Assessment for the 2022 to 2023 year during this period will remain on the Self Assessment (SA) record. Payments made during this period are not transferred to the National Insurance (NI) record on a regular basis.
From mid November 2023, the exact date varies each year but usually during the last 1 or 2 weeks in November, any Class 2 NICs already paid to SA for the 2022 to 2023 year will begin to transfer over to the NI record. This process can take 2 to 3 weeks to have all of the ‘historic’ payments transferred.
From December 2023 onwards, any payments made for 2022 to 2023 after the above ‘transfer period’ should be transferred to the NI record within a week of being received.
For earlier years, any transfer should happen within a week, for example a payment for 2021 to 2022 being made in May 2023 should transfer within a week.
If you feel you have made a payment which is not shown on your NI record, you will need to contact our NI team.

RE: Class 2 NI Payment for Someone Reaching State Pension Age in May
Hi,
You can file a Self Assessment tax return up until 31 January 2025 for the 2023 to 2024 tax year and you can file early if you have completed a full year after 06 Aril 2024 through Self Assessment and it would be back dated if any class 2 payment was received before you reach State Pension age.
If the tax year was not a full self employed year you can file early as a short return.
Once you have filed a return for the 2023 to 2024 tax year please contact the National Insurance team two working days later to discuss the tax year and confirm that it is your final relevant year for pension purposes so we can check the return and advise on any payments to be made.
