RE: Can an uber driver trade as a limited company rather than selfemployed?
Hi,
The decision to operate as a limited company is a matter for the drivers to consider. They may wish to seek professional advice from a tax adviser or accountant before deciding on how to proceed.
If the Uber income is paid to a limited company, then the IR35 rules may apply, for further information please see the weblink below.

RE: Lease in my own name
Hi,
Yes, rent paid to you by the company is an allowable deduction for Corporation Tax purposes. The rental income will have to be declared in your personal Self Assessment tax returns.
Thank you. -

RE: Refund
Hi,
If your Self Assessment tax return was submitted and received on 28 July 2023 but not yet processed a referral would be sent to the department who deal with these cases to have the tax return processed to your account and then any refund can be reviewed.
We are sorry but currently we are not able to provide a timescale for when the tax return will be processed. If you have an online account, once the return has been processed the details will be shown.
Thank you. -
RE: Capital gains tax on property in Australia - double taxation treaty
Hi,
If you are resident in the UK at the time of the disposal, then you will be subject to Capital Gains Tax on any gain arising from the disposal. To work out if there is a gain, you will need to convert the acquisition costs, using an exchange rate in operation at that time. You will also do this conversion at the time of disposal using an exchange rate in operation at that time. The difference will be your gain.
In a self Assessment tax return, you would declare the gain on SA108 and again on SA108, where you can claim up to 100% of the tax paid in Australia against the UK gain.
Under the terms of Self Assessment, we do not provide an official exchange rate and the onus is on the individual to use a just and reasonable exchange rate for each acquisition and disposal. For your convenience you can find exchange rates here:
Exchange rates from HMRC in CSV and XML format
Older rates can be found here:
Exchange rates
You are free to use any of the supplied rates or one of your own choosing.
There is a capital gains calculator which may be of some help below:

RE: DO M1 tax code - two jobs
Hi,
We would need to access your tax records to review the codes. Normally you would be on the D0 M1 code at a second job if your main source of income was using all your personal allowances and the 20% tax band.
If you think that your tax code is incorrect you will need to contact our Income Tax team to check the codes.

RE: Filled out tax return and I owe money but my tax code has already been adjusted.
Hi,
If your tax code has been amended to collect an underpayment from a previous tax year and you have also completed a Self Assessment tax return for the same tax year then you would need to contact our Self Assessment team to review the code.
