RE: Self Assessment- Balance Sheet - Turnover over £85k
Hi,
SA103F contains a built in balance sheet for completion. You are free to include your version as an attachment.
SAI is a self contained summary of your accounts which you complete as part of your tax return. It provides a comprehensive summary of your trading and profit and loss account or your income and expenditure account, and your balance sheet. Also, it shows what adjustments you have made to arrive at your profit for tax purposes. You can see guidance here:
Information from your accounts 2023 (HS229)
If you intend not to have accounts prepared, the notes to the self employment (full) pages provide guidance to help you calculate your business profit, the adjustments you may need to make for tax purposes and how to fill in the SAI boxes. You can see information here:
Self-employment (full) notes
You must keep records of all your business transactions.

The service of assisting with this will be a vatable supply.
However, the place of supply rules will determine if the supply is within the scope of VAT and whether you would need to register. You can see the guidance below;

RE: Subcontractor installing solar panels
Hi,
If the subcontractor is installing solar panels on a residential building and meet the conditions in the following guidance then the supply would be zero rated:
Installations of energy-saving materials
However the zero rated relief only applies to residential buildings and so if the subcontractor is installing solar panels on a commercial building and invoicing the contractor then the reverse charge would apply to this supply if the relevant criteria is met.
You can see guidance here:

Check when you must use the VAT domestic reverse charge for building and construction services

If you do receive a penalty in the meantime then please contact our VAT team again and we can request a review of this penalty.
