RE: Pension contributions after unemployment
Hi Jon Porter,
The maximum payment into your pension scheme that will qualify for tax relief is the lower of your income in the tax year or £60000, so long as your annual income remains below the income limit. Please have a look at these links for more information.

RE: Incentive share received related to overseas part of split year
Hi Pa2324,
The shares should be reported in the tax year in which they vested. This will determine whether they need to be reported to HMRC.

RE: Capital Gains Tax re compensation from a Developer in exchange for altering an easement
Hi Paul Z Smith,
Please have a look at CG12945: - Capital Gains Manual CG12945 - Capital sums derived from assets: s22 TCGA92: the charge to tax
and CG64603: - Capital Gains Manual CG64603 - Private residence relief: gains: deemed disposals.
We cannot give a definitive answer to the question on this general forum, I would suggest independent financial advice should be sought if there is still any doubt.
Thank you.

RE: UK freelancer and certificate of tax residence
Hi Edb,
You should request a certificate of residence, by completing the online form at How to apply for a certificate of residence to claim tax relief abroad.
If you have no foreign income to declare, but require a letter of confirmation of residence, because you are required to provide evidence to an overseas authority
that you are resident in the UK for tax purposes, to meet a requirement of an overseas countries local law, then we will issue a Letter of Confirmation of Residence.
If the request is solely for proof that you are living in the UK and is not for tax purposes, a Letter of Confirmation is not appropriate. In these circumstances, you will
need to contact the overseas authorities to determine what they will accept.

RE: Inheritance tax query
Hi Jolinsay,
Inheritance tax works in a slightly different way, presuming your parents are married or civil partners, when one of them dies, their estate will fall to the surviving spouse / civil partner and so will their inheritance tax threshhold.
When you lose your other parent, their estate will be subject to inheritance tax.
The value of the estate is measured at this time, with 2*£325000 inheritance tax threshhold applied.
If your parents own their own home and give it to you (and your siblings, including adopted, foster or stepchildren or grandchildren) the threshold is increased to £500000 and potentially a threshold of £1000000 (2*£500000).
If the second parent dies within 7 tax years of the cash gift, then it is included in the estate for inheritance tax purposes.
For more information, please have a look at the guidance at How Inheritance Tax works: thresholds, rules and allowances.

RE: Self-employed (Stock trading at home) income tax and capital gain tax both needed to pay?
Hi soluble,
As you are self employed (sole trader) you would put your trading profits / losses in SA103 only and not in SA108.
SA108 is used only for declaring capital gains that arise from the disposal of assets you own, this is very different to buying stock and selling it as a sole trader.
