Voluntary class 2 National Insurance contributions may be paid provided that the individual was normally employed or self-employed in the United Kingdom and
employed or self-employed overseas.
If you submit your CF83 application form to apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst overseas then our International Team will be able to assess
your entitlement to pay the voluntary class 2 contributions.

RE: National Insurance contributions and pension gap years
Hi,
When employed and earning between the Lower earnings Limit (LEL) and the Qualifying earnings Factor you have to hit this level each week to obtain a Class 1 NI Credit, they are not technically free your employer pays a percentage of secondary NI for you and this is when the credits would be achieved.
If you have not earned the correct amount for any week/s or had more than one part time employment this would not attract Class 1 NIC credits and the tax year would be deficient.
You should write into the department if you believe your NI record is incorrect and we will review this for you.
Write to:
PT Operations North East England
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AN
Remember to include your name, address NI Number and DOB, if you have any P60’s please provide a copy we do not need the originals.
Thanks you. -
RE: When will 2023/24 (employment) NI Contributions show on my record?
Hi,
Any class 1 National Insurance contributions that may have been deducted from your salary during the 2023-2024 tax year can take up to about October to be reflected
on your Personal Tax Account. The contributions should be reflected any time now.
Maybe leave it for a few more weeks but if they are still not reflected then please send us a copy of your P60 (or final payslip) for the 2023-2024 tax year and we will
be able to trace them and put them onto your National Insurance account.
Please check your P60 that your employer has used your correct National Insurance Number.
Our postal address is:
HM Revenue & Customs,
PT Operations North East England,
BX9 1AN.
Please attach a covering letter with your P60/payslip to advise the problem.
Thank you. -
RE: CF83 shortly before or after reaching pension age
Hi,
If you send us a CF83 application form to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions when you are close to or over UK State Pension Age, then it will be automatically forwarded to The Pension Service for them to process and reply to you.
They will advise you of your current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension and detail any shortfalls of voluntary contributions that you may pay.
If you prefer then you can contact The Pension Service direct and they will start the same process – their telephone number is: +44 191 2187777 (from overseas).
I hope that this is OK.
Thank you. -
