  • RE: State Pension Contributions Living Abroad

    Hi Andrea,

You can only pay for gaps in your National Insurance records from the year in which you arrived in the UK. You can not pay for any tax years prior to that.
The CF83 application form would not be applicable to you, its for people who have left the UK and want to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst abroad.

    Thank you

  • RE: Completing CF83 form after returning to the UK

    Hi Lisa Kandes,

The dates of your employment / self-employment abroad is important, and you will need to try and find out what the exact dates were.
If you can’t find this out you can provide us with approximate dates, but you must tell us this on your application.
You only need to complete one CF83, and you can enclose a covering letter to explain your personal situation.
Currently, you can only pay back for previous years going back to 2006-2007, it is too late to go back as far as 2004.
However, your application will need to be received by HMRC by 31 July 2023 for us to quote shortfalls from 2006-2007.
That is the deadline date for tax years from 2006-2007 to 2016-2017, after that you will no longer be able to pay for any shortfalls prior to the 2017-2018 tax year.

    Thank you.
