RE: Wrongly being taxed for foregin interest income less than £2k on HMRC's Self Assesment portal
Hi londa123,
If opting for the arising basis you are liable on your worldwide income so all income is taxable.
The interest rate will be applied further down the calculation to show that the first £2000 is taxed at 0%
Thank you.

RE:Help figuring out if I need to complete self-assessment for one-off job
Hi ypto,
Your question suggests that you are not an employee of this company, as you are issuing invoices to them, for work that you carried out.
This would imply that you are self employed, as a sole trader.
Where your gross turnover exceeds £1000 in a tax year, you meet the criteria for completing a Self Assessment tax return.
You can register for self employment for Self Assessment here:
Set up as self-employed (a 'sole trader'): step by step.
Your net profit may be subject to Class 2 and Class 4 National Insurance deductions.
The easiest way to check if you need to complete a tax return for 2022 to 2023, is to complete the questionnaire here:
Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return

RE:"Unlisted shares and securities" CG section doesn't allow zero in Disposal proceeds
Hi NotTheRealMrT,
Please leave the box blank, where you require a nil value.
In computer terms, '0' is a number and the programming is looking for a number greater than or equal to 1. '0' confuses it.
Thank you. -

RE:Self Assessment - Update Address Bug - Your date is earlier than the date we have on record!!!!
Hi Skippy3435,
When you amend your address the date you moved must be after the current address held on our records.
As long as you are not moving country within the UK if you enter the date as the date you update the record this will let you update the address and file your tax return.
Alternatively you will need to contact HMRC to review/update:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
