RE: How to buy missing years of NI self employed, after retirement age.
Hi Andrew,
Class 4 National Insurance does not count towards your State Pension.
When you are self -employed, its only Class 2 National Insurance that counts towards your State Pension.
You will only be charged Class 4 National Insurance once your Self Employment profits exceeds £12,570 for the current tax year.
If your profit is below £12,570 you will not be charged Class 4 NIC
Please see guidance here:
Self-employed National Insurance rates

RE: S041 form application
Hi Antanas1963,
Yes, you will be put through to a real person on Ask HMRC Online.
The automated system will first ask you for your query, then it will put you through to a trained Webchat advisor.
Alternatively, you can call a HMRC helpline and speak to an advisor over the phone.
Thank you.

RE: Voluntary payment made - State pension age reached
Hi Belly Belly Bell,
Unfortunately, without having access to your National Insurance records, we are unable to advise you why the payment has not been allocated.
You would need to contact the National Insurance helpline to check why the payment has not been allocated following your call on 8 July 2024. Once the payment has been allocated, the pension service will recalculate your pension entitlement.
We do not know what their timescales are, you would need to contact them for further information regarding the pension payments.
Thank you. -
RE: Checking number of years to pay voluntary Class 2 NIC

RE: How do I pay voluntary Class 2 contributions to fill gaps in my NI record (property business)
Hi David,
As you are not gainfully employed for self-employed NICs purposes you cannot pay Class 2 NICs.
You may wish to consider paying voluntary Class 3 NICs.
Thank you.
