Voluntary NICs - Change in Circumstances
If a person was given Class 2 rate for 12 past years when they were working abroad but were correctly given Class 3 for the last 2 years when they were NOT working abroad, what is the process if they restart work abroad now and seek to pay Class 2 going forward? Can they advise change of circumstances by phone / online chat? Do HMRC send a letter confirming the Class 2 rate going forward? Is a new CF83 required? Hopefully not... Please advise Thx -
RE: Impact of Juvenile Credits
Thank you I understand that the conditions for these credits are that you must have been resident in UK at the time the credits are awarded. If you come from abroad and your Date of Entry into the UK scheme falls after these years, I understand that there will be a Flag set on the system to allow the “discounting” of these credits and have them removed. I also believe The Personal Tax Account view of your NI record may still reflect these credits until they have actually been removed. === So if a person who came to the UK at aged 20 and paid National Insurance for 7 years - but due to Juvenile credits has 10 qualifying years on their NI record - will any state pension be paid for their juvenile credited years? Above applies to very many people abroad so your help is appreciated. (I'm trying to understand your system re Juvenile Credits on a NI record rather than asking about a specific individual) Thanks -
April 2025 Deadline & Grace Period if Over State Pension Age
If a person over SPA (eg 69 years old) has submitted CF83 to HMRC, they pass it DWP who then take another few months to reply. Q1 - Will such an application to HMRC made in March 2025 also be given an 8 week grace period for NICs shortfall payment from date of DWP reply? Q2 - What is the optimal approach for someone to submit CF83 to DWP if within 6 months of / over State Pension Age where eligible for New State Pension? ie - Should it go to International Pension Centre, IPC CRRT TC101, The Pension Service 11, Mail Handling Site A etc? Please advise Thanks -
Impact of Juvenile Credits
1 - If a person was physically in the UK for 6 years but due to juvenile credits has 10 qualifying years on their NI record, will any state pension be paid for the juvenile credited years? 2 - If not, should the juveile credited years be ignored if a person currently under State Pension Age is looking to buy NICs to reach 35 years of contributions to maximise their state pension entitlement? 3 - Can you provide a link to some official DWP/HMRC guidance / info on how Juvenile years impact an NIC record? Thanks -
HMRC letter indicating which NI record years were voluntary
A 2020 change to the law in New Zealand means that a UK state pension is tax exempt for people there based on the amount of years voluntary NICs have been paid. Do HMRC issue letters to confirm how many years on a person's NI record were voluntary in nature? -

Old CF83 Forms?
Is HMRC still accepting these? Is there any deadline on when you will stop accepting these? Thanks -
RE: Regarding the April 2025 deadline for paying missing years
1 - Is it correct that if a valid CF83 application has been received by HMRC before 5 April 2025, that you will grant an 8 week grace period from the date of your response? 2 - If there is a pending appeal to the ICW team regarding Class 3 status on the INSL33a letter, will an 8 week grace period also be given from when HMRC respond to that appeal? Thanks
