Re:payment towards following year
Hi thebeesknees,
If you made payments on account to your Self Assessment account then these are not shown on your Self Assessment tax return or the resulting calculation. The payments on account will be set against the balance calculated on your statement of account automatically.
Thank you. -
Re:Why is my tax code still 196t?
Hi Greenmoney,
You would need to contact HMRC to review your tax code and if a repayment is due to issue the code to your new job to process the repayment. On the P45 it could be that the previous employer has put the end date as the date of the last payment made to you or the date closed on their payroll system.
Thank you. -

Re:Reducing adjusted net income after leaving employment
Hi PFT1
I'm really sorry to hear that this has been a distressing time for you - if we can offer you any additional support, please just contact us by webchat or phone via Income Tax: general enquiries As the £30,000 does not show on your P45, it will already have been deducted from your total income, and should not impact on your personal allowance. Additional personal pension payments will reduce your net adjusted income - if these payments are made through your employer, the reduction will show on your payslip. Tax relief on additional private pension payments can be claimed by contacting us by phone or post via Income Tax: general enquiries, or by declaring them on your Self Assessment return if you complete one.
Thank you. -
Re:When to register for Self Assessment for tax year 2024/25 on
Hi Carl,
Your 24/25 paper return will be due by 31/10/2025. Only include income from 24/25 on that return - any tax due on 23/24 untaxed interest that cannot be coded will be requested through a seperate PAYE calculation. Any sources of income who you wish to change your pay and tax arrangements with would need to contacted by you seperately, to confirm if they agree to and can facilitate the change requested.
Thank you.
