  • Re:PAYE Activation code

    Hi,
    When logging in please:
    •    check your User ID and password to ensure that you are not logging in with an incorrect User ID and password
    •    check the date on the letter because the activation code is only valid for 28 days, if you have not used the code in that timescale, it will have expired.
You will therefore to need to enrol again and wait on another activation code,
    Thank you.

  • Re:Changing my name as now married

    Hi,
We are  sorry that you are having difficulty using our online services.  As you are now living abroad and also want to know about shortfalls in your National Insurance record, you should read the leaflet NI38 which is available at Social Security abroad:
Social Security abroad: NI38  It also includes the application form CF83 for paying Voluntary NICs.
Please complete and return this application form if you wish to continue paying Voluntary NICs into UK and/or if you just want to know about shortfalls in your UK record.
You should also include an employment history abroad if you are applying for Class2 NICs.
You can also include a copy of your Marriage Certificate with the form and we can then update your NI record with your marriage details and your new address abroad.
    Thank you.
  • Re:Which N.I class?

    Hi,
If you are working as Self Employed in your second job and are registered for Tax and National Insurance as self-employed, you should be completing Self -Assessment returns.  If you earn above the Small Profit Threshold for paying NI, you will pay Class2 NIC through Self-Assessment.
If you do not earn enough (you are below the Small Profit Threshold) you may be able to make Voluntary Class2 NICs to maintain your NI record for Pension purposes.
You can find out more about being Self Employed and Registering for Self-Assessment at:
    Register for Self Assessment
    Thank you.
  • Re:Yet to receive NI number

    Hi,
We are  sorry that you are having difficulty obtaining your National Insurance number.
The letter to confirm your NINO is usually sent out automatically about 4 months before your 16th Birthday to the address we hold on our records for you at the time.
This will be taken from Child Benefit records if your parents were claiming Child Benefit for you.
If this was not the case, you should contact our NI Helpline 0300 200 3500 who will make a trace for your NINO and then take any appropriate action, for example they may need to complete a Junior registration or may ask you to complete a form CA5403 (also available online) if they need more details for you to apply for a NINO.
This is the link for information to apply for a NINO:

    Thank you.
  • Re:Does anyone actually answer the phones and resolve complaints?

    Hi,
Unfortunately we cannot resolve your specific complaint via this Forum.
We are sorry that you are having so much difficulty trying to speak to one of our NI Helpline advisers.
It has been an extremely busy period on NI for the last few months.  The lines are beginning to ease now and the best times to ring are between 8am -10am – Monday to Friday, although we are open until 6pm.
Please continue to contact NI Helpline on 0300 200 3500.
We have recently taken on more Complaints Handlers and have a new system for recording and managing Complaints.
We are working hard to clear the backlog of Complaints.
We are sorry that I cannot be more specific for your complaints via this Forum.
    Thank you.
