  • Re:Do we charge VAT for goods and services supplied in the UK, to a customer based in Germany?

    Hi,
If you supply goods and the goods remain the in the UK then the Place of Supply of the goods will be in the UK and so UK VAT will need to be charged.
The goods can only be zero rated if the goods are exported.
    Please see the guidance below:
Conditions and time limits for zero rating
However if you are providing services upon the goods like maintenance/repairs then this would be a service and the Place of Supply would then be determined by where the customer belongs.
So if the business customer is in Germany then the supply of services would be Outside The Scope of VAT.
    Please see the guidance below:
    Services supplied ‘where performed
    Thank you.
  • Re: Voluntary Class 3 payments what yeras are valid

    Hi,
If you’re reaching State Pension Age on 9 August 2023, the last year you would be able to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions for, would be the 2022-2023 tax year (i.e. the tax year before you reach state pension age).
Therefore, you would be able to pay for the 2022-2023 tax year if you have a shortfall in that year. However, you must contact the Department For Work and Pensions to check if paying voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions would increase your pension before deciding to pay.
You can contact them on 0800 731 0175, lines are open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
Further information on paying voluntary National Insurance contributions can be found here:
Pay voluntary Class 3 National Insurance
    Thank you.

  • Re:National Insurance Number from 1980s

    Hi Marco,
When your mother-in-law started working in the UK, she would have been advised to register at her local DSS (as they were known at the time) Office to apply for a NI number.
A National Insurance number is not proof of working in the UK.
Since the introduction of the National Insurance Recording System in 1975 all records after that date are stored electronically.
It may be that she did not earn enough to pay NI and in which case she may not have even been advised to apply for a NINO?
If your mother has any evidence from her employment in the UK ie. Wage slips, P60,P45, Contract information, she should send this in with as much detail of the employment as possible (employers name and address, staff/payroll number, period of employment, weekly/monthly wage received etc. to help us trace any NI she may have paid.
If she has evidence that she did pay and we are able to trace them, we can ask DWP to allocate a NINO and have the NI paid transferred to her new NINO?
She can write to Individuals Caseworker, PT Operations North East England, HMRC.  BX9 1AN.
    Thank you.
