RE: Self assessment fine for son who left uk last year
Hi
If your son ceased Self Employment in January 2023, he will have been due to file a tax return for the 22/23 tax year.
This will have been due by 31/01/2024 - if you have just received notification of penalties for an overdue return, it will probably relate to the 22/23 tax year.
If your son cannot contact us by phone or webchat to discuss this, he can write to us at HM Revenue & Customs, Benton Park View, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE98 1ZZ.
You can contact us by wechat or phone for general advice at Self Assessment: general enquiries - if you would like to discuss specifics regarding your son's record, he can confirm this authority by writing to us at the address given.

RE: Payment plan setup but still receiving letters about late payment
Hi
If the amount wasn't included in your previous plan, it may be an underpayment that wasn't previously on your record.
For example, there may have been an amendment to your return after a clarification of your income or other figures, resulting in a larger amount due.
To give specific advice, we would need to review your record - contact us by webchat via Self Assessment: general enquiries to allow us to view your statement and returns.

RE: Trivial benefits - is there a limit for employees in tax year?
Hi
While there is no limit to the amount of trivial benefits that can be given to an employee (providing they meet the criteria outlined here Tax on trivial benefits ), regularly providing the same trvial benefit may disqualify it from being regarded as such.

RE: New Tax code
Hi M Mac
As the High-Income Child Benefit threshold is increasing to £60,000 from 6 April 2024, the amount of 24/25 Child Benefit you repay through your code that year should be adjusted accordingly.

RE: P45 for Casual Worker
Hi Olimacky
As your current employment has not ended you will not have a P45 to give to your employer. The new employer will give you a starter checklist to complete instead.
