RE: Do I make self assessment in this case?
Hi,
If you earn over £1000 over the course of a tax year, and you have not paid tax via your employer on this income, you will need to declare this income by filing a Self Assessment return.
We unfortunately can not advise on whether being payrolled or Self Employed would be preferable, but if you require any more advice on how each system works, contact us by webchat or phone via Self Assessment: general enquiries

RE: Capital gains requirement for property that's been split.
Hi,
Please refer to CG12731 (Capital Gains Manual CG12731 - Capital Gains Manual: Introduction and computation: occasions of charge: part-disposals: formula for apportioning expenditure) for part disposals.
You advised that it was bought in the 1980s. If it was prior to 31 March 1982 you would use the Market Value at 31/3/1982 rather than actual cost before that date.
Thank you. -
