RE: Mortgage application stuck due to HMRC error.
Hi,
I am sorry that there is a delay in processing the tax return.
If you contact the mortgage provider there should be other details you can supply as not everyone completes a Self Assessment and would not have a SA302 and tax overview.
Thank you. -
RE: Higher Income Child Benefit Repayment
Hi,
You would only declare the child benefit for the 2 children that your wife is currently receiving child benefit payments for on your Self Assessment.
To check that the details have been updated for your previous partner you will need to contact the child benefit department

RE: Self Assessment One-Off Payment Tax relief
Hi,
Box 1 of page TR4, is for payment made into a pension scheme that have only had tax relief of 20% claim by the pension provider.
You gross up your pension payment (eg. (£1000/80)*100 = £1250) and declare the gross figure in box 1 of page TR4.
You would also declare any one off payments in box 1.1. Box 1.1 is additional information and is not part of a self assessment calculation.
Thank you. -

RE: Reporting CGT on Overseas Property sale
Hi John,
Yes, as it is a foreign gain, you will need to declare it on a self assessment tax return.
In your self assessment tax return, you would complete the capital gains section , to report the gain and the foreign section, to claim up to 100% of the foreign tax paid.
This will ensure that you avoid being taxed twice.
Thank you. -
RE: Tax Relief on Charity Donation

Yes if you are a higher rate tax payer you can claim relief on your gift aid payments.
