RE: 2022–2023 tax bill adjustments payment query
Hi Julia B,
If you made payments on account to your Self Assessment account then these are not shown on your Self Assessment tax return or the resulting calculation.
The payments on account will be set against the balance calculated on your statement of account automatically once the tax return is processed and show the resulting balance then due for payment.
If you have overpaid and have a credit on your account then you can request a repayment online or leave the credit to be set against future liability.
Thank you.

If you have foreign income or capital gains, regardless of the amount, you meet the criteria for completing a self assessment tax return, even if you do not have to pay tax on the income or gains in the UK.
Thank you.

RE: Taxed under Threshold
Hi Solwolf,
Yes if your income is below the personal allowance then the allowance can be split between the 2 sources of income.
If you have an online account Personal tax account: sign in or set up you can update the estimate held for your income which will then amend the tax codes.
If unable to amend online you can contact HMRC to review and update Income Tax: general enquiries.
Thank you. -

RE: small gift clarification
Hi Frankie22,
Please have a look at the guidance on gifts and examples at How Inheritance Tax works: thresholds, rules and allowances.
£3000 can be gifted to one person or it can be divided between several people in a tax year.
Birthday or Christmas gifts you give from your regular income are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
You can carry any unused annual exemption forward to the next tax year - but only for one tax year.
Thank you.
