  • RE: How to pay Voluntary contributions to fill gaps

    Hi Paul from Aus,
I can confirm that you will not be penalised in any way because of the length of time it will take for our International Teams to reply to your CF83 application form.
Voluntary National Insurance contributions for the 2006-2007 to 2022-2023 tax  years should be received by 5 April 2025.
I would recommend that you forward your CF83 application form to us at your earliest convenience so that it will be in our system.
If your CF83 application form is received close to 5 April 2025, you will be given an extended time of 8 weeks to forward any payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions that you wish to make.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Gaps in my NI record as a result of staying in full time education

    Hi Edwin Richards,
Unfortunately, an individual does not receive credits of National Insurance for periods of Full Time Education.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Missing NI payments 1981/83 worked as civil servant

    Hi Caracas80,
I note that your National Insurance account does not reflet the amount of contributions that you’ve paid for the 1981-1982 to 1982-1983 tax years.
If you have your P60s for this period (or your last payslip for each tax year or if not any payslip) then please let us have copies and we’ll be able to trace for any missing contributions and put them on to your National insurance account.
    Our postal address is:-
    HM Revenue & Customs
    Individual Caseworker
    PT Operations North East England
    BX9 1AN
Turning to your National Insurance Number.  The letter at the end of a National Insurance Number is not used any longer so as long at the first two letters and six numbers are correct then this is fine.  The end letter was used prior to 1975 when we went computerised and was used to stagger contributions coming into the National Insurance Office which had to be dealt with manually.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Missing a few months to 10 years of full NI contributions

    Hi donato,
Our leaflet Social Security abroad: NI38 explains about paying voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst overseas including how to pay them.
If, once you have read the NI38 you would like to pay voluntary contributions whilst overseas, please complete and return our CF83 application form.
The NI38 and CF83 application form are both available via theabove link.
Before paying voluntary contributions you should check with The Pension Service to ensure that it is worthwhile for you to do so.
The following weblink details how you may contact The Pension Service and check your State Pension:  Check your State Pension forecast
    Thank you.
  • RE: Incorrect Information held by HMCR

    Hi Sparks1061 Reeves,
To enable us to amend your National Insurance account to reflect your correct date of birth, please send us a certified copy of the ID page of your British Passport (if you have one) with a coving letter and we’ll get this sorted for you.
Our postal address to send your letter to is:-
    HM Revenue & Customs
    Individual Caseworker
    PT Operations North East England
    BX9 1AN
    Thank you.
  • RE: How to Pay Voluntary National Insurance Contributions from Abroad

    Hi Kerry07,
It is possible to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions from the 2006-2007 tax year.
The letter that you have received should show all the shortfalls of voluntary contributions that you may pay.
The letter should also accept your application to pay current and future voluntary contributions either by annual payment or by direct debit.
Before you do pay any voluntary contributions you should check with The Pension Service whether it is worthwhile for you to do so, their contact details should be on our letter.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Class 3 voluntary NI Contributions - Delay in Processing

    Hi 9KMissingNITopUp,
Sorry for the delay in dealing with your payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions, this should have been dealt with before now.
If you could call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 they will be able to help you.
The telephone lines open at 8am so if you could call as soon after this time as possible you should get through without too much delay.
If you have tried to call the National Insurance Helpline without success, then you may wish to make a complaint to HM Revenue & Customs and our Complaints Team with deal with this for you.  Details of how to do this can be found at:  Complain about HMRC
    Thank you.
  • RE: Need to Update National Insurance Home Address - Cannot verify id with 2 forms of UK id

    Hi UKGOVESS,
Our International Teams are currently dealing with queries received in February 2023 so, unfortunately, there will be a delay of about 43 weeks from the date that we received your query. When they do deal with your query they will update your National Insurance account as required and provide you with any information that you have requested in your letter.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Class 3 voluntary NI Contributions - Delay in Processing

    Hi brad57,
If you could call the National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 they will arrange for your payment to be allocated urgently as you have advised that you are over pension age.
When you speak with them would you let them know that you are over pension age please.
There is a delay in us dealing with allocations of voluntary contributions but we try to help people when they are coming up to pension age or if a benefit could be affected.
    Thank you.
  • RE: NI contributions and pensions forecast.

    Hi Andrea Taylor,
When an individual is employed in the UK they must pay class 1 National Insurance contributions even if they have a full pension entitlement.
The employer would deduct these class 1 contributions from their salary until they reached State Pension Age.
If the individual works after State Pension Age then the employer would not deduct class 1 contributions from their salary.
    Thank you.
