RE: Voluntary National Insurance class 2 and living aboard
Hi Haggard92c,
When you end your period of UK self-employment, please call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 to update your National Insurance account.
If you’d like to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst overseas, please read leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ and then complete and return our CF83 application form. The NI38 and CF83 application form may be found Social Security abroad: NI38
To be entitled to pay voluntary class 2 contributions whilst overseas, a person must have been normally employed or self-employed in the United Kingdom before their departure and employed or self-employed overseas.
These may be paid by annual payment or by direct debit from a UK or Channel Islands bank account.
Thank you. -
RE: Requested the A1 form to HMRC
Hi HamishF1631,
Sorry that you’re experiencing problems in getting through to our National Insurance Helpline.
The lines open at 8am and are usually quieter in the early morning if you would like to speak with an Adviser.
However, I’ve checked the timescales for the Team that process A1’s and can advise that they are dealing with queries received from customers on 21 February 2023 at the moment.
So if your request was sent later than that then there will be about a 44 week wait from them receiving your request to providing you with a reply.
Thank you. -

RE: How to correctly enter US dividends in online tax return?
Hi sbradford50 Bradford,
If this is your only income, your personal allowances will be used to cover some of the tax due and this therefore will reduce the amount of foreign tax credit relief that is due.
