RE:Self Assessment Pension Contribution (SIPP)
Hi PeteSouthgate,
If you have paid into a works pension scheme before your employer deducts tax from your income, then you will have received tax relief at source and no further tax relief is due.
If you paid into the pension scheme after tax is deducted from your income, your pension provider will claim basic rate tax relief from HMRC and add it into your pension pot.
You then can then claim claim higher rate tax relief on pension payments, provided you pay higher rate tax.
You enter the gross figure in the tax return ((£12500/80)*100).
This will extend the basic rate band, so that more of your income is taxed at 20% and less at 40%, thus giving additional tax relief in the tax calculation.
Thank you. -
RE:Tax on UK state pension when living in Italy
Hi Jif100 Milan,
Please download and complete the form DT individual pdf:
Double Taxation Treaty Relief - DT Individual
If your local government pension is not taxable in the UK, then complete the form including this pension as well as your State Pension.
Please send the completed, signed and dated form to the Italian tax authorities.
They will validate the form and return it to you.
You in turn, will need to send the form to HMRC at the address on page 1 of the form.
My colleagues will be able to issue a 'NT (no tax) tax code to your pension provider, so any tax they have deducted, is refunded.
Thank you.

RE: State Pension and Self Assessment
Hi jictink,
Apologies for any confusion.
If the amount of State Pension pre-populated on your tax return does not match the figure that you have calculated that you received.
Update your return with the figure that you have calculated that you have received.
Thank you. -
RE: Non resident untaxed UK interest income
Hi anshuman aggarwal,
If you are not tax resident for the whole tax year and need to complete a Self Assessment tax return, you need to declare that you are not tax resident in the UK, in the SA109 supplementary page and also report all of your UK sources of income and capital gains on the tax return.
Thank you.
