RE: Inquiry Regarding Withholding Tax Information Between UK and Spain
Hi Rcarde,
If you are a UK resident and have overseas interest, which will be taxable in the UK, you can contact HMRC and request a certificate of residence to present to the country in question, provided there is a tax treaty between both countries.

RE: Estimating historic value of inherited property
Hi Stuart McKinnon-Evans,
No, the probate figure is approved by the courts so must be used.
If the figure declared on the probate is too low, you would need to have the probate amended.
We cannot advise you how to do this, as it is a legal matter.
Thank you.

Capital Gains Tax, Principal Private Residence relief and Refurbishment allowance
Hi Greg Simmonds,
You would be entitled to claim Private Residence Relief for the period that the property was your main residence, so that Capital Gains Tax is not charged for that period.
The period that you rent the property out for, does not qualify for Private Residence Relief, so Capital Gains Tax may be payable.

RE: Interest on Children's savings account
Hi Nella,
It does not matter who deposited the capital into the account, once it is in the account, it generates interest in the childs name and it is this interest that is taxable.

RE:Retiring shortly
Hi Malcolm Good,
As the bonus will be paid in May which is the 2nd tax month of the 2024/25 tax year then you will pay some tax at 40%.
After you receive your P45 from your employer you can submit a form P50 to review for a repayment:
