CGT if married after a gift...
Hi Nick Riley,
Your wife would use the value of the property at the time she acquired it, for her acquisition cost, as well as any solicitors fees, estate agent fees etc, as this is the value of the asset at the time she acquired it.
Thank you.

With Profits Income Bond - Income and Capital Gains Tax
Hi JonF41,
As there have been withdrawals, the gain from the policy will have a notional tax of 20%.
When the gain, added to your income means that you are still a basic rate taxpayer, the notional tax will cover the extra tax payable, so that there is no further tax.
If the gain is less than £10000, you should sent the chargeable event certificate to:
H.M. Revenue and Customs Pay As You Earn BX9 1AS.
If more than that or you complete a Self Assessment tax return, it should be reported in the tax return at SA101 in the section for "Gains from life insurance policies, capital redemption policies and life annuity contracts.
Thank you.

Voluntary NI contributions class two from abroad
Hi DouglasFir61 Doleman,
When an individual wishes to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions by bank transfer in the UK they require an 18 Digit Number.
As you are overseas your 18 Digit Number will always be the same format and will be your National Insurance number, then IC and then your surname and initial.
If this takes you over 18 Digits then please use as much of your surname as possible.
So an example of your 18 Digit Number would be:
QQ123456AICJONESA
Thank you. -
RE: How to Pay Voluntary National Insurance Contributions from Abroad
Hi bahrain,
We can confirm that the bank details that you quoted for us are correct.
The 18 Digit Reference Number that you would use as an overseas payer, whether a UK or overseas bank, would be National Insurance Number + IC + surname + initial.
If your surname is longer than the digits available then just as much of your surname as possible.
Thank you.

RE: NI back pay (living abroad)
Hi Sharon2,
If you previously asked about paying voluntary National Insurance contributions for the 2006-2007 to 2015-2016 tax years then a new CF83 application form would be needed to pay tax years after that.
You could ask to pay by annual payment or by direct debit on the CF83 for future tax years if you’d like to do this.
You may find the CF83 from here:
Apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions when abroad (CF83)
Thank you. -
RE:Appealing a CF83 Decision?
Hi Johnny King,
If you do not agree with the decision that our International Team have made regarding the correct class of voluntary National Insurance contributions that may be paid your relative may wish to send us a letter to ask that they review their decision.
If your relative could just confirm their employment details again then this would be helpful.
Thank you. -
RE: State Pension Contributions Living Abroad
Hi Rob Taylor,
When you claim your UK State Pension you should inform the Pension Service of the other countries that you’ve worked in.
Although there is no actual transfer of Social Security contributions paid in other countries, the Pension Service will be able to advise how contributions paid in an EU member State may help your UK Pension.
We can confirm that the UK does not have a Social Security Agreement with Australia so any contributions you’ve paid there will not count for your UK Pension but you may wish to pay UK voluntary contributions for this period.
Thank you.
