RE: CAPITAL GAINS Payment reference
Hi Alan Redford,
HMRC would not be able to provide a confirmation of exemption.
The policy provider is in the best position to confirm if the life assurance policy is a qualifying policy and is exempt.
Please have a look at helpsheet HS320 for more information:
Gains on UK life insurance policies (Self Assessment helpsheet HS320)

What taxes are paid on inheritance from an estate in USA?
Hi Confusedbeneficiary,
Beneficiaries of an estate whether foreign or domestic, are not charged inheritance tax in the UK.
Only the estate of the deceased is.
We are unable to give financial advice on any matters.
You will need to seek the advice of an accountant or other specialist for answers to your questions.
Thank you.

RE:Foreign forestry income
Hi E,
Income from the sale of timber from the ownership of commercial woodlands is exempt from both Income Tax and Corporation Tax - the exemption only applies if the timber cut or felled is not altered or transformed prior to sale profits arising from the occupation of commercial woodlands are not chargeable.
Capital Allowances cannot be claimed on capital expenditure incurred on plant or machinery connected with commercial woodlands.
Note that if the woodland is connected with or attached to an existing farming trade, special consideration will have to be given as to the tax status of the operation.
Relief is not available for:
losses suffered expenditure incurred on the preliminary clearance of woodland of woodland or other preparation of land for forestry purposes. Further giudance is here:

RE:Casual earnings losses relief?
Hi Jerry Chan,
You can submit a claim for overpayment relief detailing what has happended for it to be considered.
This will have no bearing on the 22/23 return at this time as you will need to submit the claim for 20/21 in writing.
Thank you.

RE: Interest expense on individual trading account
Hi mickael28,
This is a different scenario.
If you look at the example you refer to in CG56101, the interest is in respect of the 80k that has not actually been invested by the customer.
Thank you. -
RE: Gains in the year, before losses (Capital Gains Tax 46)
Hi Shivani,
For claiming loss relief this would be on the capital gains section.
You would treat it as a disposal with proceeds of 0 to generate the loss to then set against your income.
The SA101 is only to claim the actual tax relief on the investment as you state this is for an earlier year, you would need to send this in separately.
Thank you. -
