Hi, Thanks for the reply, as I said I have already contacted the Technical support with HMRC online services but they replied it is not technical problem and cannot help me. I have also called the childcare service but they said I need to create the government gateway in order to get the code. So, it goes back to my question how to pass my identification check in the government gateway? Appreciate if I can have the postal address to contact HMRC officer for the identification check please? Thank you.

Hi there, I am currently trying to submit my application for natiralisation as my BRP expires 31Dec2024.. I can log-in to Government Gateway with no problem, however when I enter my number, date of birth and NI number I keep getting a "we cannot confirm your identity" message. I have filled in 95% of my application last November 2023 and now need to get in to pay and submit application. I don't know where to go from here, can anyone please give me advice on who can help me? Thanks!

Hello Admin, I cannot prove my identity after signing in to the gov Gateway portal. I called customer care and they advised me to send a letter by post with my details (DOB, Name & Address, and NI). I did that around a week ago. I still cannot prove my identity. Do you know any other way I can prove it and use the needed service? Thanks, Mohit

Hi Buddhika,
Biometric Residence Permits are not dealt with by HMRC.
You will need to contact the Home Office. Guidance can also be found on .gov.uk:
Biometric residence permits (BRPs)
Thank you.

Hi everyone, My French passeport includes both my maiden name followed by my married name (yes I know that the French are mad and love complications) but the ID GOV check app only retains my maiden name and I can't open a Personal Tax account due to this mismatch. All my accounts (bank, tax return, and all any documentation in the UK) have been registred with my married name as my file with HMRC for more than 20 years. I have been asked to update my documents with my maiden name but this is not my current status and will lead to trouble later on. Just for opening a Personal Tax Account on line, I should change all documentation and fight to prove my "new" identity whereas my married name is still in the passeport but cannot be read by the scan ? Who could advise and help with workable solution, please ?

I’m trying to help my husband to apply UTR. He has some overseas bank interests and rental income from his property in the UK that needs self assessment. He passed all the identity check through the ID Check app and login to the HMRC account without any problem. However, when he completed the self assessment application form, an email from HMRC informed him that his application cannot be processed for the information he submitted does match with HMRC record. Therefore, HMRC cannot verify his identity and cannot proceed his application for UTR. He tried to call the general enquiry hotline, but the adviser said she cannot help him to apply UTR for he doesn’t have any employment record in the UK yet and therefore, there is not a 3rd party can verify his identify and cannot apply UTR for him over the phone. He called the technical team many times, but they all said this isn’t a technical issue and cannot help also. The technical team asked him to write his situation through their online chat but the reply received are irrelevant. He has nothing change that needs to update the HMRC record. He wrote a letter to explain his situation and sent all his personal documents (passports copies, driving license, birth certificate) by mail to the HMRC office for almost three weeks but not yet receive any notice or feedback from the HMRC. How can he follow up his case? How can he apply UTR and submit self assessment tax return?

Hi ,

If your husband is unable to register online then he can download and submit a SA1 to register :

Register for Self Assessment if you are not self-employed  .

If he has already submitted the details by post then your husband can check the timescale for a reply at :

Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC      .

Thank you ,
