RE: Do I need to report these incomes in a self-assessment?
Hi KC,
1) - Please see the following link about the requirement to complete a Self-Assessment Tax Return - Self Assessment tax returns.
2) - HMRC should be notified about the amount of UK bank interest received during 2023/2024 - please, however, see the following guidance about reporting foreign income - Tax on foreign income
3) - Whether any further action is required for 2023/2024 depends on you reviewing and considering the Guidance shown at points 1) and 2).
Thank you. -

RE: How to Pay Voluntary National Insurance Contributions from Abroad
Hi Moray Vincent,
If you’ve already written to explain then in our digital mail correspondence all correspondence from the same customer ID (eg NINO) is linked and the agent dealing with your letter should be able to find the most recent correspondence.
In terms of our international caseworker staff on the telephone lines, they can deal with most queries including allocation on monies if payments have been received, there are some cases where they need to hand off for more clerical action but they are fully trained in areas of international National Insurance.
Thank you. -
RE: How to report interest earn from Crypto staking?
Hi Ray T,
It is reported as miscellaneous income when it is staking and as capital gains if sold.
Thank you. -
RE: Mileage vs petrol receipts-
Hi LisMur,
You cannot change your way of calculating unless you actually change vehicvle, so if using the same vehicle as last year you will need to continue with actual expenses.
Thank you.
