RE: Self assessment ''not captured''
Hi wlk385,
I am sorry there was an issue capturing your online tax return. As advised when you contacted HMRC this wil be referred to a speacialist team to review and update the record. Once processed it will show the original filing date so late filing penalties will not apply. Once processed if you have overpaid this will show on your account and be available for repayment. I apologise in the delay in getting your tax return processed we currently have a backlog of claims which we have deployed extra resources to deal with.

RE: split year treatment bonus
Hi JCSK,
Under the terms of the double taxation treaty, payment for employment carried out in Hong Kong is only taxable there. as the bonus relates to this, you don't declare it in the UK.

RE: tax liability in the UK when earning interest from a UK bank as a non-resident
Hi Stanny77 Russell,
Please have a look at the non residents savings and investment income helpsheet HS300 (Non-residents savings and investment income (Self Assessment helpsheet HS300)).
This will let you work out your taxable income from UK savings and investments if you’re not resident in the UK.
Further information can be found at SAIM1170 - Savings and investment income: non-residents.

RE: Fill in Excess Pension to carry forward for next year tax year
Hi VenuKelkar,
The unused pension threshold from the 3 previous tax years, can be carried forward and added to the year in question.
Eg. 22/23 can have unused threshold from the 3 previous years added to the threshold of up to £40000.
The unused threshold cannot be carried back from 22/23 to an earlier year.

No confirmation received for self assessment registration and UTR is not received
Hi ckwok,
While it usually takes 10-15 days to receive your UTR once you've registered, it can take longer during periods when we receive a higher amount of registration requests.
Contact us by webchat or phone via Self Assessment: general enquiries and we can confirm the current processing timescale.
Thank you. -
RE: Gift aid query - which number?
Hi ash89,
You would enter the amount you yourself have actually donated - the gift aid amount donated on top of that is then calculated for you.
Thank you. -
RE: Teacher's Pension Contributions & High Income Child benefit charge
Hi niasghar,
You would enter the gross figure of £56,000 in your employment income, then the amount paid in contributions (£5640) in the box titled 'payments to registered pension schemes (also known as PPR) where basic-rate tax relief will be claimed by your pension provider'. You can find this box on the Paying into Registered Pension Schemes page of your return.
Thank you.
