RE: How could I label this expense?
Hi newluke16,
The initial payment is classed as part of your income and the money you then give to the customer would be miscellaneous expenses.
Thank you. -
RE: File self assessment after leaving UK permanently for India
Hi Ali,
If you have a government gateway user ID and password, you will be able to submit your return online from India.
You can also contact HMRC at Self Assessment: general enquiries to obtain your UTR.
Can you also complete form P85, to let HMRC know you are leaving the UK.
The form can be found at Get your Income Tax right if you're leaving the UK.
Can I also ask that you review the guidance on residence and complete the tests at RDR3, so that you can determine your residence position for this tax year.
RDR3 Statutory Residence Test.
Thank you.

RE: Self assessment - redundancy payment
Hi bry1987,
As your total income is over £100,000 you still need to complete the tax return.
To claim relief on the redundancy payment you will need the additional information page SA101 - Additional information (2023).
You may also want to refer to the notes that accompany this page to help you complete it.
Thank you. -
RE: Non UK resident - foreign income currency conversion
Hi Michael,
As the new employment is not in the UK, you do not include it in your return as you are non resident.
Thank you. -
RE: Overseas income and gains
Hi Oscar Palgal,
Foreign capital gains are reported on SA108, so that they can be included in the calculations.
If you paid foreign tax on the gains, then you show the gains in SA106 as well, as this allows you to claim a foreign tax credit relief.
You can claim for losses for the last 4 tax years (19/20 to 22/23).
You would declare this on the capital gains page and elect what to do with the losses, eg carry forward and set against future gains.
For 19/20 & 20/21, it is too late to amend your tax returns, so you will need to submit a losses claim in writing to HM Revenue and Customs Self Assessment BX9 1AS.
There is information on losses at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/losses-hs227-self-assessment-helpsheet/hs227-losses-2023

RE: Taxation for Italian residents
Hi Danny Burns,
As you will be resident in Italy, you would report all of your income to the Italian tax authorities.
If your pension is not arising from the UK, then this is reported to the Italian tax authorities.
Any income from UK land and property must be reported to HMRC in a self assessment tax return.
You will need to complete SA100 (main tax return), SA105 (Property) and SA109 (residence).
The double taxation agreement allows for Italy to also tax your UK rental income, but you can claim tax relief for tax paid in the UK.
You can register for self assessment at Register for Self Assessment, if not previously registered.
Thank you. -
RE: New pension payments
Hi Petula Bayonne,
For customers over State Pension Age, once a payment is allocated to the NI record, an electronic update is passed to the DWP.
It is then up to them to ascertain if any change is due to the state pension and take appropriate action.
We are unable to advise how quickly this takes place and you will need to contact the pension services helpline on 0800 731 0394.
They are open from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday
Thank you.
