RE: Transfer of savings from Malta to UK
Hi Joglen,
You will not be taxed on the actual capital that you have transferred but you will need to declare any interest or dividends that this then generates,
Thank you. -
RE: Base cost of right to buy property for capital gains
Hi Gavin Anderson,
You would use the sum paid for the property as the purchase price and not the market value, as this sale was at 'arms length'.
Arms length is a term that means the there is no relation, by blood, adoption, marriage or two or more people who are living together, to the seller.
CG14550 advises that market value can be used where the transaction is not at arms length.
CG14550 - Market value rule: acquisition no disposal: disposal no acquisition
Thank you.

RE: Completing CF83 form retroactively
Hi Anton,
I can confirm that you should provide your most recent employment abroad, at question 18, but enclose a covering letter listing all of your employments abroad in datal order.
Please provide the names and addresses of each employer, start and end dates and the country you were working in.
For question 7, you should input the most recent country i.e. the overseas country that you are living in now.
For question 20, if you’re not sure whether you’re employed by an overseas government or international organisation, you should ask your employer before giving an answer to
the questions in that section of the form.
Thank you.

RE: Self assessment for non UK resident
Hi Logei,
If you submitted your tax return online, you would have received a confirmation reply just after your submission.
If you did your tax return online and did not recieve a confirmation, log back in to the tax return and check that you did go right through to the end and submit the return.
If you sent a paper tax return to HMRC, you will not recieve a confirmation of reciept.
You will need to contact our self assessment webchat facility at Self Assessment: general enquiries, to check if we have received it.
Thank you.

RE: Tax on interest on long term fixed rate bond
Hi Clive Urry,
Income tax is charged on the arising basis.
If you have access to the funds before maturity, then the interest is taxed annually.
If the interest is only paid at maturity, then it is taxed in full in that tax year.
Thank you.
