RE: Allowable expenses on foreign business assignment
Hi,
You will only be able to claim business use for the actual days you ae working.
As the trip is not solely for business, the cost of the flight is not allowable BIM37600 - Wholly and exclusively: duality of, or non-trade, purpose: travel costs: contents.
You also cannot claim for food during the day as you would still need to buy this no matter where you are working.
You can claim for overnight subsistance for the days you are working - Expenses if you're self-employed
Thank you. -
RE: split year
Hi W Yuen,
We cannot confirm whether split year treatment applies, this is something that only you can do.
You will find the guidance on split year treatment at hRDR3 Statutory Residence Test.
A tax return is required to declare split year treatment, as well as foreign interest.
You would declare foreign interest and tax deducted in a self assessment tax return, but only your share of the interest.
There would not be any tax implications to transferring the funds to your UK bank account, however, if the funds generate interest, then the interst is taxable and should be declared.
Thank you. -
RE: Private Pensions
Hi,
The box immediately after the box you completed should read 'Tax taken off pensions (other than state pensions), retirement annuities and taxable lump sums treated as pensions (optional)'. Enter the tax paid on your private pensions in this box.
