RE:DDS taxation of gains and losses
Hi E,
Please refer to:
https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/savings-and-investment-manual/saim3080.
This states the loss is set against your income charged to Income Tax for the year.
Also, as a Deeply Discounted Security (DDS) normally a US Treasury bond, would be subject to Income Tax on maturity for UK taxation purposes. However, if redeemed or sold before maturity would be subject to Capital Gains Tax, therefore, capital gains (CG) liability or loss may arise.
CG54602 - Deep discount securities: CGT adjustment
CG54602 - Deep discount securities: CGT adjustment
Therefore, any gain would be entered onto shares and securities area of CG schedule.
If double taxation applies any relief would be claimed on the Foreign schedule, CG area.

RE: Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi Simon Harrison,
There is no tax relief for the fees you incur.
This will be a side effect of your intention to transfer money into your UK bank account.
Thank you. -
RE:Capital Gains Tax - Deed of Assignment
Hi Neerav Shah,
Although you are the legal owner of the property, your wife is the benefifical owner and as such, she will be taxable both on the income from the property and capital gains arising from the propertie's disposal.
This should be done within 60 days of the completion date.
There is a capital gains calculator here:
Capital Gains Tax,
Which also includes instructions on registering for a capital gains account, to report and paid the tax due.
Thank you. -

RE: HMRC Approval of Capital Gains Calculator
Hi Fraser Scott,
There is only a calculator for disposal of UK residential property and land.
For all other disposals, you will need to work out the gain yourself.
Please have a look at the guidance here which explains how to do this:
Capital Gains Tax: what you pay it on, rates and allowances
Thank you. -
RE: Gifting Property
Hi Jane Bartlett,
Your brother will have CGT to pay as it is still seen as a sale.
This is based on the difference in value at the time it was gifted and the value now.
He will take 50% of both for his share.
The current price will be based on market value.
We cannot comment on future events as legislation may change.
Thank you. -
