RE:Filling for a past year tax return
Hi Nancy A ,
There is an option to select an earlier tax year when you log into your Self Assessment account.
The late filing penalty is £100.
Thank you. -

While it does depend on why you're leaving the UK, with an Self Assessment record you would usually only complete the SA109.
You can find more information here:

Or contact us at:

To discuss what you specifically would need to complete.

RE:Importing under DDP
Hi
If you have purchased goods and not been the importer then you would not be declaring any import VAT on your VAT return for the purchase, only the net value of the purchase.
However, if the seller was the importer of the goods and therefore paid all the import charges, I would advise you to check if the seller is therefore VAT registered in the UK and making a supply of those goods to you in the UK.
If so, the seller would then issue you a VAT invoice for goods supplied in the UK for you to account for on your VAT return.
Thank you. -
RE:Software switchovers mid VAT Quarter
Hi Sir Vatalot,
VAT returns can only be submitted by one software product, two submissions from two products for the same overall VAT period would not be accepted.
If the information is held over two products, you would need to arrange for the data to be input into one software product to allow the submission of the full VAT return.
Thank you. -
RE:Calculating VAT registration Turnover
Hi David Cozens,
The VAT registration threshold is based on taxable supplies not on payments received.
Please refer to notice 700/1 section 3.4 for guidance on working out the value of your taxable supplies
3.4 Working out the value of your taxable supplies
Thank you.

RE:What type of tax applies to profits made from trading stocks using Contract for Difference?
Hi ChrisV,
That is the correct way to work out any profit/loss.
The way it is taxed depends on whether it is a trade or gambling.
Please see guidance here:
CG56105 - Futures: financial futures: financial spread betting
BIM22015 - Meaning of trade: exceptions and alternatives: betting and gambling - introduction
Thank you.
