RE:Foreign Insurance Policy
Hi Karen,
The result of the calculation when a chargeable event arises may not be a positive amount.
There’s no relief for a loss and you should not make any entries on your tax return.
However, if the result of a full surrender, death or maturity calculation is negative and you made gains on the policy in earlier years, the section that follows about ‘deficiency relief’ may be relevant.
A loss on one policy cannot be set off against a gain on another policy.
Thank you.

RE:Reporting Foreign Dividends
Hi blackcountry,
Any amount of foreign dividends should be declared on the Self Assessment tax return.
It may be that you are being asked to check the figures you have entered, to ensure they are correct.
If you click on 'save and continue', you should be taken to the next section of the tax return.
Thank you.

Hi Brian Courtney,
As you already have the UTR, this will enable you to file the tax return to declare the foreign income.

RE:New equipment for my business
Hi Adriel Yap,
You can claim this as an expense but only for its business use.
If you use this for personal use too, you need to work out the proportion that is actually business and then claim that percentage of the cost.
Claim capital allowances.
Thank you. -

RE:CF83 Form submitted by recorded delivery, No showing as Received on Gov Gateway
Hi Paul Bonner,
HMRC do receipt letters sent as recorded delivery and sign for them.
We receive many letters daily in this manner.
When letters are received, we scan them to be digital and they are then listed under their unique identifier such as a National Insurance Number.
As we receive vast amounts of letters daily at HMRC it can take 4 to 6 weeks for a letter to be processed onto our systems.
On the second letter sent to us on 21/10/2023 the six weeks date is 02/12/2023.
Please call/web chat the National Insurance helpline and state “overseas/non-resident” if you contact us to confirm that the letter/s are listed under you National Insurance Number.
Please ensure to mention to the advisor that you have sent the CF83 application form a second time and if there is no trace of your second letter, please provide the advisor of the details you have for your recorded delivery so we can investigate appropriately.
If you have a personal personal tax account, you can sign in and use the web services to chat to an international caseworker advisor also.
