  • RE: 18 Digit Reference for payments

    Hi David888,
If you are paying voluntary Class 2 NI from abroad the details are on the link provided below.
The 18-digit reference example in the link advises the name for example to be as - QQ123456AICDOUGLAS-HAMILTONJ, this is over 18 digits.
Some banks only permit 18 digits so if you are only able to add in 18 digits for your name you can just apply the first 3 letter of your surname and any initials that make up the remaining digit/s. The details you provided are ok to be 17 digits - QQ123456AICJONESA.
Pay voluntary Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you do not pay through Self Assessment.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Grandparents claiming child credit

    Hi GlamGran,
Yes, you can put one period that covers multiple tax years on the application form as long as the start period is after 06 April 2011. Specified Adult Childcare Credits is a weekly credit and you will receive a Class 3 NI credit for each week or part week you cared for your grandchildren so yes a partial tax year can be awarded. You can still claim for periods as long as you meet the requirements below:
    •    you are a Grandparent, or other family member caring for a child under 12
    •    you were over 16, and under state pension age when you cared for the child
    •    you are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, meaning England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but not the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
    •    the child’s parent (or main carer) agrees to your application by countersigning the form to confirm that
    •    you cared for their child for the period stated
    •    you can have the Class 3 NI credit for the period stated
    Thank you

  • RE: Voluntary Contributions not appearing in my online record

    Hi Crooty,
The date the payment was received by HMRC from your bank is the received date that will be applied to your payments of class 3 voluntary contributions. If the funds have cleared from your bank that will be the date we received the payment. Any payments made before April 2025 are paid on time but the allocation of the payment to the tax years involved may be made at a later date.
You can check when you can expect to receive a reply or the when allocations of the payment should be completed by via the online checking tool - Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC - GOV.UK
If you have made the payment before the April deadline the associated credits are applied at a later time, but you have ensured the money was received in time. Please contact us if you are at within six months to your state pension age or over the state pension age on the number below.

    Hi,
As you are overseas, please complete and return our form CA5403 which will ask for your details and enable us to try to trace a UK National Insurance Number for you.

    Thank you.
  • RE: State Pension Query.

    Hi pwylung,
Providing that we receive your query before 5 April 2025 then an individual will receive a further 31 days for making any shortfalls of voluntary National Insurance contributions that they may wish to make.
The rates in force when we receive your query will be used.
You will not be penalised for our delays.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Does bank account PAYEE have be the same as the voluntary contributions profile?

    Hi,
The issue with the surname should not affect your payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions.  The 18 Digit Reference Number that you would have used on your bank transfer would have included your National Insurance Number so your payment will be allocated to this.  If your parents are overseas then you sending a bank transfer for them then, again, this should not be a problem as you will use their National Insurance Number as part of their 18 Digit Reference Number when you make your bank transfer for them.
    Thank you.

  • RE: State Pension Query.

    Hi Federica Buso,
    Thank you for your query
We apologise for the current wait times on the phone lines, during this busy time of year we are receiving a high volume of calls, we are currently trying our best to reduce the long wait times, the quietest time of day for contacting the helpline is the first and last hour the lines are open, between 8-9am and 5-6pm.
However if you are unable to call at these times, an alternative to contacting us via telephone is our customer webchat. Please find the link below:

  • - RE: Employer NI Contributions for overseas staff

    Hi NK23456,
There is liability for class 1 National Insurance contributions for the first 52 weeks of employment overseas when the following conditions are satisfied:
    -    The employer has a place of business and
    -    The employee was resident in the United Kingdom before their overseas employment began and
    -    They are Ordinarily Resident in the United Kingdom for National Insurance purposes
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in the UK then your employer will not deduct class 1 National Insurance contributions from your salary and you may then wish to pay voluntary contributions to maintain your entitlement to the UK State Pension.  Full details are given in our leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ which is available via Social Security abroad: NI38.
    Thank you.

  • RE: payment of voluntary class 2 NIC contributions from abroad

    Hi Paul,
You may send one payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions if you wish to cover as many tax years that you wish to make.
When we receive your payment we will look at the shortfall letter that we sent you to work out what years that you made your payment for.
If we were unsure then we would write to ask you to clarify.
Just to confirm, our bank details can be found via:
Pay voluntary Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you do not pay through Self Assessment.
    Thank you.

  • RE: payment of voluntary class 2 NIC contributions from abroad

    Hi STROGET ANDREW,
Our bank details that you have provided are correct for you to use for your payment of voluntary class 2 National Insurance contributions from overseas.  Please also remember to use your Reference Number when making any payment by bank transfer – as you are overseas, your Reference Number will be:  Your National Insurance Number followed by ‘IC’, your surname then your initial.
Details may be found via Pay voluntary Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you do not pay through Self Assessment.
    Thank you.
