Hello, I'm a bit confused by the guidance given in the HMRC Basic PAYE tools user guide for the treatment of the "Final submission for the tax year", as described on this page in the guide: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/basic-paye-tools-user-guide/basic-paye-tools-user-guide#annual-reporting-and-tasks Particularly where it talks about sending the final report in an EPS vs an FPS, where it states: " When to send an Employer Payment Summary (EPS) You should send your final report in an EPS instead of an FPS if any of the following apply: you forgot to put ‘yes’ in the ‘final submission for year’ field in your last FPS, however BPT will allow you to make an additional FPS submission if it is before 19 April " My situation is that I have generated (and now submitted) my last FPS detailing the last salary payments of the tax year, but there was no option that I saw to put 'yes' into any 'final submission for year' field (which is not a checkbox for question that I saw when generating or submitting my FPSs for this month, and the last of the tax year) - where is this field found in BPT, if possible could you point it out to me for next time? I can now, in the basic PAYE Tools application, click and follow the "Final submission for tax year" menu option but this generates an FPS not an EPS and does not give me an option to choose one or the other. In addition, the FPS that is generated is almost entire empty, containing only the following data: yes Is it sufficient to just send the new FPS containing just the data above that BPT has generated? Or do I need to take some other corrective action? Many thanks for any assistance that can be offered

Hi Allan,

You can send another FPS through by clicking on the link on the left hand side.

Thank you.

Could you please clarify your reply as I have a similiar situation to Allan. I also now have an oustanding FPS with the only data 'yes' and that I am unable to delete. Can I send this FPS. My final monthly salary FPs was sent a couple of days ago.

I have the same situation. I didn't have an option to mark as 'final submission for tax year' on my month 12. I did what the guide said and did the separate final submission for tax year which had only minimal data as the above comments, and then submitted them both, I assume this is correct, but it would be good if HMRC could clarify please.

Hi Ian40
If you are unable to mark an FPS as a final submission you can select the link on the left had side to send a final FPS for the year.
With regards to the outstanding submission we would require more information as to what it is.
If it is the final submission of the year FPS then you can send this.
Thankyou.

Hi Claire Boddy
Yes this would be fine, if you didnt have the option you can generate an FPS which notifies that this is the final submission of the year.
Thankyou.

Hi, through Basic PAYE Tools I have submitted a Full Payment submission for the 2022-2023 tax year a week earlier by mistake can this be corrected? I have successfully submitted a wage payment on the 1/4/2023 which was accepted in the 2022-2023 tax year. I am now in the 2023/2024 tax year and it says last employee payment date 1/4/2023 add employee payment, which I have already done in the 2022-2023 tax year. What do I need to do? Thanks

Hi Bluebeard12
You would need to move into the previous tax year at the top of the screen and then you will be able to submit the FPS.
Thankyou.

Hello, I have the same situation to the described above: I didn't have an option to mark as 'final submission for tax year' submitting month 12. I have submitted the separate final submission for tax year, but there is still no option to to activate new tax year. Could please clarify how do I activate a new tax year. Thank you.

Hi, I accidentally sent in my final submission for the upcoming year by accident instead of the exiting tax year. how can I cancel this, and reopen it properly please?

Hi
You may have unsent submissions, if you check on the left hand side there may be a submission waiting to be sent.
Thankyou.

Hi, I have a similar issue, in that I incorrectly sent a Final Submission for this year, when I should have sent it in April next year. Is there a way of reversing it, or can I just continue to pay employees?

Hi
You can continue to send submissions which will cancel the previous one.
Thankyou.
