Hi If I am not a higher rate tax payer and therefore not entitled to any relief, do I need to say Yes to the "Did you give to charity" question? I don't want to keep records of every Gift Aid donation if I don't have to. Thanks

Hi,

You only need to declare this if you made Gift Aid donations.

Thank you.

Thank you - but that's not what I asked. :) If I DO make Gift Aid donations but don't want to bother recording them or claiming any tax relief for them myself, can I say "no" to this question? I don't think I'm entitled to get any relief anyway as I don't pay higher rate tax, so surely there's no point declaring the donations at all.

Hi Tim Wakeling,

If you made Gift Aid donations these should be declared on the tax return.

Thank you.

Thank you. I laboriously added all my Gift Aid donations to the return, and lo and behold, the total tax due, as expected, did not change. What a waste of time!
