Dear HMRC Team you are currently keep writing mails/reminder on late tax return with to an address which does not belong to the person indicated in the letter. 3 mails were sent back to HMRC but another two mails arrived. To our knowledge the person you are sending those reminders has never lived at that address. My partner tried to contact HMRC over the phone to alert of the error being made, but after waiting 30 minutes on the line no-one answers and we hanged up. We are not sure what else to do as HMRC ignored all communication sent back by post. Could you please update your database at once and stop sending those letters to our address? thank you. rgds

Same is happening to me. For over a year. But the letters still keep coming and I can't ever get though to HMRC. I don't think anyone actually works in the Return to Sender department!

Greetings, I'm still receiving letters from HMRC about VAT being due from a company that is not mine. I do not have any business. I've already called HMRC to let you know about the wrong address several times, the last one being jan 01, 2023. there's no protocol for the call to prove that i have reported this, every call to HMRC takes forever and does not solve the issue. How can i make sure that i will not be personally liable?

Hi Iulia Cislali,

If you can, please cross out the name and address on the front of the envelope, write 'return to sender' on the front and post the letter back to us.

Thank you.

Hi,

If you are able to seal the envelope then cross out the name and address on the front, write 'return to sender' on the front and post the letter back to us. You do not need to use a stamp to do this.

Thank you.

Hi There, I've received tax calculation letter for someone who does not live at my address. I've contacted action fraud and explained that this has happened twice in a week and its been recorded, The first letter was returned via post box with name and address crossed out and in red ink the name of person does not live at this address. So now what do to stop this happening and please don't say call HMRC because you can never get through. look forward to your constructive reply, Thank you

Hi Andrew Kennedy,
When the first item is returned to HMRC the record will be updated to mark the address as incorrect, it can take a few weeks for the record to be updated.
Thank you.

I have the same issue. Over 50 letters received all returned to the address on the back. I have started taking a picture of every letter with the date and details. I phoned HMRC Help Line a few years ago and when I go through they said I must just keep on returning the letters. It seems such a waste of tax payers money. Does anyone have any advice as to how we can get this resolved?
