So I requested a tax refund on January 31st and waited for it to come through. I chased it up on March 1st to be told it can take another two weeks. I called on Monday to be told that it's all ok and they'd prod the right department to get it sent out. On Wednesday an additional miscellaneous payment showed in my account. I called this morning and the person said it was all cleared and waiting to go out . I then contacted them again as I wanted to get a timescale on that and was told that they are doing security checks and these should be done by April 25th and they have referred this to the right department to get the refund sorted. I have mental health issues with both anxiety and depression right now following the death of both parents and losing my job and I wanted to use the money to take a break over Easter with my daughter and now I feel like a total failure because I feel I can't trust what the representatives at HMRC say with the various dates. Its been over 8 weeks now. I could contact them again but I was told that It can delay repayments if I contact before another 14 days is up It's just another blow and I don't know if or when I'll get the refund. I am sitting here in limbo and I feel that there's no point in carrying on. I owe council tax which I was going to pay off but what's the point anymore. If I'm not here any more then they can't give me any more stress over this.

Hi,

Apologies if you are being given different information when you contact us. If a repayment is not issues within 2 weeks then the repayment has been stopped for additional security checks.

When you contact our helpline we can only send a referral to the department if it has passed their expected timescales for the repayment to be reviewed.

Thank you.
